In Tangible Infinity
This artistic optical illusion was created by Sarah Niedzwiecki, CAS 2004. It includes a colorful mobius strip that appears to float in space in front of the installation at the end of a long hallway on the first floor of the Photonics Center. This piece was winner of the 2004 "Art is Light Design Challenge."

The illusion is created using a large parabolic mirror and a plate glass beam splitter. The real mobius strip is hidden inside. What we see is a magnified reflection of the strip, which passes through the beam splitter to appear as a virtual image suspended in space.
